Jay Roberson embarks on his third year as the Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations for Samford athletics.

Roberson's responsibilities includes all external operations, including marketing, sports information and broadcasting. In addition, his focus is corporate sponsorships and fund-raising for Samford athletics.

Roberson's goals for Samford athletics is to heighten the awareness, build the branding program, create an exciting student-athlete experience, and enhance the corporate partnership program.

In Roberson's first year he was instrumental in a television deal with ESPN to broadcast the first nationally televised Samford football game in school history. Roberson has implemented the first licensing program for Samford athletics with Strategic Marketing Affiliates (SMA) the leading management company for collegiate licensing. Through SMA, Samford athletics will make inroads in the retail industry and online merchandising for Samford alumni, students, and fans.

Under the management of Roberson, external operations has continued success in enhancing the corporate partnership program, fund-raising, and increasing the awareness of the Samford Athletic Foundation. In 2005-06 Roberson has implemented continued success in generating over $750,000 to support Samford athletic department.

Before moving into administration at Samford University, Roberson served as Assistant Commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference where he was the director of the Football championship and Basketball Tournament. He also handled sponsorships, marketing and negotiation of television partnerships for the SWAC.

Roberson was the event director for the Bruno Event Team/Alabama Sports Foundation from 1999-2002. He served as the event coordinator for several championships and other events for the Bruno Event Team. He also managed and developed sponsorship packages, marketing and advertising campaigns, operations and logistics for those events.

From 1997-99, Roberson was the director of media for Ramsay/Classic Sports Marketing. In his role with Ramsay, he served as the producer/talent for the college football magazine show. He was also the host/color analyst for the Game Day College Football Broadcast on Fox Sports South and the Sunshine Network. Roberson also served as a teacher and coach at his alma mater, Homewood High School from 1996-98.

From 1995-96, he was an intern with Alabama Power, assisting in various areas of corporate communications.

Roberson received his B.A. in Telecommunications from Alabama A&M University in 1996 and was the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1992-94. Roberson and his wife, Niva, reside in the Birmingham area with their two children, Lia, 7 and Tré, 5.
